It is no secret that smoking causes cancer, and secondhand smoke is a major cause of death. I was wondering if you all think there should be more bans on smoking. If so, how, where, and when should smoking bans be implemented?
Let me give some background to this topic as a non-smoker. I enjoy fresh air. I think that fresh and clean air is one of those basic human pleasures. But when I go outside, many times I have to hold my breath to get past a cloud of smoke. Many times, I will feel nauseous and get headaches from just a bit of exposure. I would definitely say that it has ruined my quality of life to some degree. Being in school is that much harder when I can’t study because some guy decided to light up and subsequently give me a migraine.
The amount of second hand smoke that I sometimes have to waft though has made me consciously hope that I don’t get lung cancer from all the exposure. I understand that smoking is enjoyable to some people. However, the effects on others make me feel like it should be treated like a true cancerous gas. I’m completely aware that smoking is addicting. But I don’t see why it should be allowed to be openly used. For comparison, some people are addicted to pornography. Since pornographic material can be seen as obscene, people usually watch porn in private. Yet, porn doesn’t give people cancer.
So, I want to know everyone's thoughts on this.
